Alcoa City Schools Family/Community Engagement System-Wide Plan

Each school in the Alcoa City school district will implement the School Board Policy regarding Family/Parent Involvement as required by federal and state legislation through individual school Family Involvement Plans

Each school will provide meaningful opportunities for parents/community to participate in activities that will promote and support the overall school plan. These activities will be outlined in the individual school plan.

Each school will formulate a Parent Advisory Group for the school and hold regular meetings to share information and promote parent involvement in each school.

Each school will plan and provide trainings for both faculty members and parents that will promote quality family/community involvement.

Each school will provide the parents/community access to their Family/Community Plan through the use of letters, web-site, and Channel 3.

A description of the programs, activities, and trainings that promote involvement of families in each building will be outlined in the individual school plans.

Each school will provide activities/strategies that support ways for parents to learn about the course of study for each of the grade levels of that school. These will include but are not limited to the use of school web-sites, Channel 3, School Brochures, Library Collections, etc.

Each school, in coordination with the Parent Advisory Group, will provide specific strategies outlined in the individual school plans for parents to have input on the activities related to homework, attendance, and discipline.

ACS will make accessible the Board Policy, System-wide plan, and the individual school plans to parents by letters, posting on ACS web-site and ACS Channel 3. All information related to this policy and the individual school policies will be made accessible in the languages of all students.

A written description of each school’s curriculum, academic assessments, and expected proficiency levels for each school/grade level will be available in the school library, web-sites, and/or Channel 3 and outlined in the individual school plans.

ACS will coordinate with various community organizations through an annual meeting to promote family involvement.
