Alcoa City Board of Education Hiring of Support Personnel (GCD)

The Board shall authorize all support personnel positions and the director of schools shall assume responsibility for filling such positions. Identification of personnel needs shall be the responsibility of the director of schools, supervisors and building principal.

Opportunity for employment, as well as continuation and advancement in employment, shall be afforded equally to members of all races, creeds, colors, sexes, religions, ages, national origins, and individuals with disabilities or veteran status with regard only for qualifications for the position involved.2,3

Employees shall be selected, retained and promoted on the basis of fitness for the position, merit, and efficiency and shall be required to successfully complete a six (6) month probationary period.

APPLICATION

An individual desiring a position with the Board shall make application to the director of schools on forms approved by the Board.1 In a continuing effort to further ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff, the district may require criminal history record checks and fingerprinting of employees and others having direct, unsupervised contact with students.

Knowingly falsifying information shall be sufficient grounds for termination of employment and shall also constitute a Class A misdemeanor which must be reported to the District Attorney General for prosecution.

Any costs incurred by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in conducting such investigations of applicants shall be paid by the Board requesting such investigation and information; however, the Board may require an applicant to pay such costs if the applicant is offered and accepts a position as a teacher or any other position requiring direct, unsupervised contact with students.2

No person shall be employed:

1. Who has any contagious or communicable disease in such a form that might endanger the health of school children;4

2. Who is not a citizen of the United States of America, or has not compiled with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1 986;5

3. Who fails to make a full disclosure of any prior criminal record and any prior dismissals from employment for cause.

RECOMMENDATION

After checking references and receiving written recommendations from principals and/or supervisors, the director of schools shall hire and assign qualified applicants.

The initial employment of each support employee shall contain a statement regarding the required 6 month probationary period.
